Psychological Support Lead

Salary: £24.45 – £27.98 per hour + Generous holidays, Pension

Contract Type: 4 Month Fixed Term - Secondment

We are seeking an inspiring and compassionate Psychological Support Lead to provide leadership and direction to our dedicated Family Support Team, which delivers emotional, spiritual and creative care to adults, children and families across our community.

This will be a secondment position that will oversee a diverse range of services - including counselling, bereavement support, creative arts, compassionate companions, and spiritual care - while also carrying your own clinical caseload. You will play a central role in how Dorothy House supports people experiencing loss, grief, and the challenges of life-limiting illness, ensuring our care is safe, evidence-based and deeply human.

PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT LEAD | Band 7 | £24.45 - £27.98 per hour
4 month secondment

Working closely with our Deputy Director of Care Services and as part of the wider multidisciplinary team, you will combine hands-on practice with visible leadership - collaborating with staff and volunteers, strengthening partnerships, and supporting the development of innovative ways to meet the psychological needs of our patients and families.

The role will include:

  • Providing professional and operational leadership to counsellors, therapists, creative arts and spiritual support teams, bereavement services, and compassionate companion volunteers.
  • Carrying a small clinical caseload, supporting patients and families facing loss, bereavement, or life-limiting illness.
  • Ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based psychological care is provided across all services.
  • Overseeing the recruitment, training, supervision and wellbeing of staff and volunteers.
  • Managing referrals and waiting lists, ensuring timely access to support.
  • Building strong relationships with internal teams and external partners to deliver seamless, person-centred support.
  • Supporting colleagues across Dorothy House through consultation, education, and supervision.
  • Contributing to service development and quality improvement, identifying new opportunities to enhance care.

HOURS OF WORK

This is a Full-Time position working 37.5 a week (Monday to Friday).
The role is a 4 month secondment position that will be in place to cover until the new Psychosocial Lead is recruited.

ABOUT YOU

Please note that only existing Dorothy House employees / volunteers are eligible to apply for this role.

Essential requirements:

  • Recognised professional qualification in counselling, social work, psychotherapy or clinical psychology, with current accreditation/registration (e.g. BACP, UKCP, HCPC)
  • Significant post-qualification experience supporting adults, children and families through loss, bereavement or life-limiting illness
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams or volunteers in a therapeutic or hospice environment
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practice for adults and children, with experience managing complex cases
  • Skilled in delivering safe, effective and evidence-based psychological interventions with sound clinical judgement
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Commitment to reflective practice, supervision and continuous professional development
  • Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience developing or delivering training, education, or supervision
  • Experience in service development or quality improvement within psychological or bereavement services
