Description

We are looking to recruit registered nurses with palliative care experience to provide compassionate and empathetic out of hours advice line service to patients, families and professionals. The service will operate across 7 days during the twilight period of 4.30pm - 11pm and will form part of Dorothy House Hospices 24 hour continuing single point of access service.

ADVICE LINE - REGISTERED NURSE | Band 5 £14.53 - £17.69 per hour

The duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for telephone enquiries to the palliative care 24 hour advice line, giving professional advice and support to patients, families and DH and external Professionals
  • To provide effective forwarding and signposting to relevant internal and external services including liaising with the Medic on call as required.
  • To ensure the reason for the call is responded to with compassion and empathy to alleviate anxiety and to provide the best possible support for whatever situation the caller is in.
  • To assess and triage the needs of callers and take appropriate actions to support them e.g. providing direct advice, liaising with internal Clinical and Medical leads, signposting to acute services
  • To provide nursing advice that is patient and family centered, acknowledging the needs of individuals and ensuring a high standard of information is provided
  • To demonstrate patient focused clinical practice with a high commitment to professional care and partnership in care.
  • To review and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing advice provided and where appropriate initiate any action that may be required

HOURS OF WORK

We have full time, part time and bank positions available; details can be discussed at interview.

This role will work across the twilight hours of 16:30 - 23:00.

ABOUT YOU

Please Note that only existing Dorothy House employees / volunteers are eligible to apply for this role.

Essential requirements:

  • First Level Nurse
  • Can demonstrate evidence based practice to nursing care
  • Demonstrates evidence of palliative care knowledge
  • Demonstrates an ability to contribute effectively within the Multi-disciplinary team
  • Can give examples of when to both give and receive support
  • Good level of medicines management knowledge
  • Can give examples of managing their own workload

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience in teaching/education
  • Experience with SytmOne
