We are here for anyone in our community who is facing a life-limiting illness. Using our full breadth of service, we create individual care journeys, which start at diagnosis and continue with bereavement support for family, carers and children.

We are excited to be recruiting for a Consultant to join our medical team. As a Consultant your will be pivotal in providing specialist medical services to our community, as well as supporting our hospice strategy.

CONSULTANT IN PALLIATIVE MEDICINE | BMA aligned salary

As a Consultant in Palliative Medicine, you will work as a senior clinician, to participate in all aspects of specialist palliative care, including the care of patients in our in-patient unit, supporting the Community Palliative Care team in their work with patients in the community, supporting Palliative Care Patients in the RUH acute hospital, and providing specialist clinical advice when needed.

Other duties and responsibilities will include:

  • To provide clinical leadership within the multi-disciplinary team meetings and to undertake out-patient consultations and domiciliary visits as required.
  • To drive a culture of evidence based clinical practice and new research in end of life care by working closely with our Education and Research team.
  • To support the delivery of high quality education at all levels and across all disciplines e.g. GPVTS, UWE modules, medical students, GP and other Specialty Trainees whilst on placement
  • The post holder will be expected to participate in the medical contribution to management within the specialist palliative care service provided by Dorothy House Hospice Care.

HOURS OF WORK:

This is a Part Time role, working 8.0PAs (with a further 0.5PAs allowance for a second on-call). See rota in our Job Description for more detail.
The position will be based in Winsley with hybrid working agreed through approval. As well as working within our wider community.

ABOUT YOU

All applicants are required to hold a full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC. As well as MRCP (UK) or equivalent.

As a registered Medical Consultant, you will also demonstrate one of the following:

  • Being on the GMC Specialist Register as a specialist in palliative medicine or, eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam.
  • Or, hold a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
  • Or, demonstrate a primary medical qualification and recognised specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register

Other Essential Requirements include:

  • Experience in working effectively within a multidisciplinary team and specialist palliative care unit.
  • Experience in teaching and training post / undergraduate healthcare staff.
  • Evidence of initiating, progressing and completing quality improvement projects.
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of voluntary sector hospice funding and management.
  • Can demonstrate holding high level responsibility for medical decision making.
  • A full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Post graduate qualification in a relevant field e.g. MA, MSc, MD, PhD
  • A teaching qualification / higher qualification in medical education
  • Experience working as part of a management team
