What did you do before working at Dorothy House?
I’d been working as a buyer and merchandiser of shoes for 11 years. I then went into wholesale with a jewellery company as Head of Merchandising. I did all the buying, forecasting and all the sort of techie figuring out what numbers to buy, and helping the designers figure out what range they wanted for the following year based on sales.
What made you want to work for Dorothy House?
My relationship with Dorothy House began when I was 20 and my dad died under their care. When I was about 25 I wanted to do something to give back. So, I used to come up on a Sunday as a volunteer and cook for the people that were staying in IPU, or were visiting as a day patient.
What is the best thing about working here?
There are loads of opportunities to get involved. I’ve done so many things over the years. I’ve walked across hot coals, run the Bath Half marathon and done plenty of bucket shaking! I dressed up as a crab on social media last year! It's nice that you can get involved if you want to.
What would you say to someone considering working for Dorothy House?
Dorothy House has been very supportive of my career over the years and there are lots of development and training opportunities available. I've gone from going round shops putting some more dresses out here and rearranging shop floors there, to helping configure huge tech systems and doing massive data imports.
